Wakefield Council are participating in the government's Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme and are working in partnership with voluntary and community organisations, local schools and childcare providers in the WF Happy Healthy Holidays programme. It is funded by the DfE to provide a summer of free activities and food for children and families eligible for income-related free school meals throughout the district. The programme aims to reduce inactivity and isolation experienced by many children across the Wakefield district during the school holidays, as well as providing children with healthy meals and nutritional education.
HAF Fun at Castleford RUFC is part of our expanding community engagement and Castleford RUFC are delighted to join the WF Happy Healthy Holidays programme. For 4 weeks in the summer holidays, in partnership with Focus Alternative Provision and GT Sports, we will provide a range of activities within a carousel format where groups of children, up to 20 in each group, will move around the activities during each and every day.
The activities will include rugby, boxercise and other fitness regimes, and varied multisport activities and games, football skills and games, a portable/inflatable 5 a side pitch and activity sessions relating to healthy eating, advice around range of foods and a balanced diet with provision for vocational and artistic pursuits including drawing, painting, gardening and organised visits by local uniformed services.
The range of activities and carousel format will maintain interest and reduce the chances of potential boredom and non-participation.
The participants will have a menu choice (suitable for different palates/food preferences/allergies) that they can make daily.
As part of the programme we can provide advice for families relating to food choices, healthy meal preparation and shopping and general daily lifestyle choices and tasks.
The programme will run from 26 July at Castleford RUFC, Willowbridge Lane, Whitwood, Castleford WF10 5PD.
There are 60 places available over the 4 weeks and pre-booking is essential through Wakefield Council’s dedicated booking site using the following link: https://castlefordrufc.coordinate.cloud/.
